How does one introduce themselves without appearing to brag, be conceited, proud, or just full of oneself?  Let me first begin by acknowledging that God is in charge and He has enormously blessed me by allowing me to serve as the Business Administrator at Rocky Bayou Baptist Church.  I am privileged to work here with fellow Christians who have remarkable gifts and talents where we serve together the cause of Christ and His Mission.  Prior to serving here, I had a successful thirty year career within the business community, primarily in the Human Resources profession.

I was born, raised, and somewhat educated in rural Nebraska.  With tongue firmly planted in cheek, I will admit to having three children – two wonderful adult sons and an awesome wife.  My young and beautiful bride and I have been married over thirty years.

God chose to move us to Florida twenty-four years ago and Rocky Bayou has been our church home since 1988.  I have had the privilege to serve in many positions including as a deacon, youth ministry volunteer (where I am the oldest teenager) and within our single adult ministry.  My wife Terri is also very active within several ministries and serves on the Women’s Ministry Leadership Team.

In my spare time (can you hear me laugh here?); I enjoy most outdoor activities, long-distance running, boating, and hang’n at the beach, but especially hitting the road on my motorcycle.  I am an accomplished amateur carpenter (it ain’t bragging if it’s true) and I take great pleasure in both small and large construction projects.  I have had the opportunity to be part of numerous short-term mission trips within the southeast US and in third-world countries.

How did I become a Christian?  A very dear friend and roommate of mine (David) had gotten himself saved due to the unscrupulous efforts of a co-worker, a guy named Ernie who worked in the print shop where both were employed.  Ernie was just a simple guy who lived Jesus in front of all the guys in the shop - and this especially agitated David.  At every turn, David taunted and ridiculed Ernie, his life, and this Jesus he kept talking about.  Ernie never returned the insults, teasing or criticisms; he just continued to live Christ and love his co-workers.  David later told me that he just had to know what caused this guy to be so different.  Through several long conversations with Ernie, David was introduced to the saving knowledge of the cross and the new life of Jesus Christ.

This definitely ruined our alcohol and drug induced lifestyle.  Over a six month period, as I watched David’s life literally transform before my eyes I also was very attracted to this Jesus.  In the course of more than a few long talks with David and researching the scriptures, I came to Christ in 1972 at age 19, admitting Jesus’ great work of salvation and redemption.

Ernie, where ever you are – thank you!
